GNAM New exhibition
The majestic building of Valle Giulia is now a hundred years. The gallery has been set up again by the superintendent Maria Vittoria Marini Clarelli.
Before this exhibition, as we know, the Gnam used to follow four directions (early nineteenth century, late nineteenth, early twentieth century, late twentieth century). There are many news. No more iron gates at the entrance but only white marble columns, the sculptures are casts of the late nineteenth century.
The Reflective Floor by Pirri is the first work of the new show at GNAM that the visitor sees. The first room is in fact titled "The Artist interprets the museum", and this time it was Alfredo Pirri to be chosen and invited to reflect on the possibilities offered by the new exhibit. Pirri's work (a floor entirely made of broken mirrors) can be analyzed from various aspects (historical, psychological) and leads us to reflect on the meaning of crushing. The meaning of the first room is that of an orientation room: a place of passage, of wonder, of entrance to the museum.
The adjoining room is titled "Excuse me, but is this art?", a quote of the title of a book by Giorgio De Marchis where there is an overview of the artworks that, over time, have been able to raise "scandal" or amazement or simple understanding problems: the works of Burri, Fontana, Manzoni. The sector of the temporary exhibition has the advantage of being separable (if it is closed, it does not create any kind of damage to the rest of the path). It is a space that expresses the cultural politics of the curatorial team of the gallery. The first seven rooms are designed with a thematic exhibition.
